This party rental company came to my firm seeking not only a new website but also a custom-designed logo for use throughout their marketing material. I began with the logo design as I felt it would have a major impact on the overall design of the site that was to follow. Knowing that this business’ primary clientele were children ages 4-8 I decided that the logo and resulting site should be fun, colourful and cartoony.

I created several initial drafts of the client’s logo to start though all of these designs incorporated a animal character as a sort of “mascot” for the business. The client immediately fell in love with the frog design, though they requested text elements from one of the other designs be incorporated into the final product.

With the logo taken care of I then set about creating a site that would continue the themes I had established with the client and provide them with a singular, unified brand image. Knowing the clientele this business was targeting I decided early on that this site was going to be heavily image-based to be more engaging for a young audience. A simple, colourful image would serve as the site’s background and provide some extra splashes of colour the the site to supplement the red, yellow and white colour scheme I would use for the primary elements of the site.

To promote a sense of fun and whimsy through the site I used a bold, bubble-letter font for the headings with some clever use of the text-shadow css element to create pseudo-outlines on the letters. To make sure the site was also legible and accessible to the parents who would be contracting the client’s services I went with a neutral, easy-to-read sans-serif font for the body copy.

The major element that the client wanted to showcase with their site was the table on the rental rates page. In keeping with the fun, bold design throughout the site I used an alternating red and yellow colour scheme throughout the price table on this page that would jump out at viewers and demonstrate the importance of this content.

The final result was a playful, engaging site that would appeal to a young consumer-base and would convey the sense of fun and whimsy that comes with jumping on a bouncy castle.
